BSF jawaan shot dead by his colleague in Murshidabad, 13 rounds fired

The accused, SK Mishra, from Rajasthan and posted with the 119th Battalion of BSF, fired 13 rounds from his INSAS rifle

New Delhi, June 16

A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was shot dead by his colleague while on duty in Murshidabad, West Bengal. 13 rounds were fired and at least five bullets hit the deceased constable. 

The police stated that incident occurred around 10:30 PM on June 14 in the Dhulian Municipality. 

The accused, SK Mishra, from Rajasthan and posted with the 119th Battalion of BSF, fired 13 rounds from his INSAS rifle following a heated argument. At least five of those bullets struck his colleague, Ratan Lal Singh (38), fatally injuring him.

Both jawans were deployed at the violence-hit site on orders passed by the Kolkata High Court to maintain peace and protect civilians. 

After being shot, Ratan Lal Singh was first taken to Anupnagar Hospital and later shifted to Jangipur hospital due to his critical condition. He was declared brought dead upon arrival.

SK Mishra, fled from the scene, however, police traced and arrest him along with his firearm later that night. 

BSF confirmed the incident and said that they are fully cooperating with the state probe agency.
