Car occupants fire at constables of Chandigarh police

The car driver initially fired a gunshot in the air and then pointed his gun at the constable : Police

New Delhi, January 24

An unknown car occupant allegedly opened fire at two policemen at Sector 38 in Chandigarh before escaping from the spot. None was reported injured in the incident.

The police stated that the incident took place when a police constable of Sector 39 police station, Pradeep Kumar, was deployed at Sector 38 residential area on his duty. On suspicion, the constable signalled a white coloured car to stop, to which the car occupants did not obey. The miscreants then after reaching the policeman stopped the car a few meters away, and one of them stepped out of the car.

The police added that Pradeep chased the car and managed to get hold of one of the miscreants, while the car driver drove the car a few meters away and then returned back. The car driver initially fired a gunshot in the air and then pointed his gun at the constable.

While Pradeep fortunately escaped the gunshot aimed towards him, in the meantime, Deep Chand, a constable of the District Crime Cell, (DCC), who was also patrolling the area, arrived at the scene and caught the suspect who was in the car. However, the driver who was armed with a weapon, opened fire at both the policemen, firing four rounds as he escaped with his accomplice, police further stated. 

The forensic team had also reached the spot and were collecting evidence. The police teams are hunting for the occupants of the car. 

The CCTV footage from the local area and in Mohali was being scrutinised to ascertain the escape route of the accused till the filing of the report.
