Cash of Rs. 41 lakhs from Kapur police station malkhana goes missing

New Delhi, February 24
In a shocking incident, Rs 41 lakh in cash recovered during raids related to gambling, has been found to be missing from the malkhana of the Govindnagar police station in Kanpur of UP.
The police informed that the missing cash is related to 21 cases registered at the police station between 2021 and 2022. Since the cases are still pending in court, the cash was kept in the malkhana as case property.
The matter came to light when the newly appointed malkhana in-charge reviewed records before taking over from Dinesh Tiwari, a head constable who later got transferred to Lucknow. Tiwari was posted at the Govindnagar police station from 2020 to 2022.
The police added that a few days ago, when he came to Kanpur for the handover, a record check revealed that the Rs 41 lakh was missing from the malkhana. When he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, the police filed the case against him.
The police have filed an FIR against him on charges of criminal breach of trust.
