CBI arrests driver of CGST Superintendent for accepting bribe of Rs. 1 lakh in Meerut

New Delhi, February 14

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a driver while accepting bribe of Rs 1 lakh on behalf of accused public servants of Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST).

The CBI registered a case against two accused including a Superintendent and an Inspector of Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST), Meerut on allegations that accused demanded a bribe of Rs. two lakhs from the complainant for mismatch in Sales and Purchase bills of his firm.

During investigation of the case, accused public servants directed the complainant to deliver the bribe money of Rs. two Lakh to driver of said Superintendent.

The CBI laid a trap and caught accused driver red handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs. 1 lakh (as first installment of demanded bribe on behalf of accused public servants) from the complainant, outside the office premises of CGST, Meerut Division Office. 

The agency also conducted searches at residential and official premises of accused at Meerut, which led to recovery of incriminating documents, pertaining to investment in several properties and also recovered cash, so far.
