CBI arrests EPFO official from Maharashtra in bribery case

The accused official demanded bribe for settlement of PF dues of the firm : CBI

New Delhi, October 14

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested accused Enforcement Officer of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Jalgaon for demanding and accepting bribe from complainant.

A case was registered by CBI against accused Enforcement Officer of EPFO, on allegations that labour supply firm of complainant’s father which he was looking after, received an email from Regional Head, DO Jalgaon (EPFO) in July informing that Audit Officer was going to conduct audit of their firm between.

During audit, said audit officer allegedly informed the complainant that the firm had defaulted in the payment of PF for the month of March 2023 which came around Rs. 2 lakhs. It was further alleged that the said accused thereafter contacted the complainant telephonically and demanded undue advantage of Rs. 50,000 for settlement of PF dues of the firm. After negotiation, accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant.

The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while demanding and accepting the undue advantage of Rs. 25,000 from the complainant and he was subsequently arrested. 

The agency also conducted searches at residential and official premises of accused person at Jalgaon and Nashik which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
