CBI arrests four including Chief engineer of South East Central Railways in bribery case of Rs. 32 lakhs

New Delhi, April 28
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended four accused including the chief engineer of South East Central Railways in Bilaspur in bribery case of Rs. 32 lakhs.
The CBI stated that a case was registered by CBI against four accused including IRSE: 2000 officer presently Chief Engineer (CE) of South East Central Railways, Bhilaspur; a private company; accused Managing Director of the private company; employee of said private company and unknown others.
It was alleged that accused Chief Engineer (CE), South East Central Railways, Bilaspur in connivance with private persons all belonging to accused firm were indulging in corrupt activities of obtaining bribe money from the private contractor in lieu of favouring the firm in the contracts and work orders executed by it in South East Central Railways. It was also alleged that accused CE (IRSE:2000 officer) had instructed his family member to receive the bribe amount on his behalf in Ranchi.
It was further alleged that accused private company was executing various work orders for South East Central Railways, Bilaspur including construction of minor and major bridges, Railway Over Bridges (ROB), Railway Under Bridges (RUB), capacity enhancement work, track lining work, etc.
Accused MD of the private company allegedly informed his son on that as per the direction of accused CE, he would be meeting him in his office at Bhilaspur. After meeting accused, said managing director told his son that the quantum of bribe money has been decided that they have to deliver Rs.32 lakhs to accused to finalise the pending matters in favour of their firm.
It has also been alleged that accused MD of the said private company instructed his company’s employee to deliver a sum of Rs.32 lakh to accused family member in Ranchi, the native town of accused. The public servant had allegedly informed his family member that one person would be coming to Ranchi to deliver the bribe money.
The CBI laid a trap and caught accused CE after his family member had accepted a bribe of Rs. 32 lakh from other accused belonging to the accused private firm. The bribe amount was recovered from the possession of CE’s family member by CBI Team.
The agency is conducting searches at several places including in Bilaspur and Ranchi, Chhattisgarh. Several incriminating documents and cash has been recovered so far during the searches so far, CBI stated.
