CBI arrests senior railway officer in a bribery case in Gorakhpur

New Delhi, September 14
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested senior railway officer of North Eastern Railway for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from a contractor and threatening to cancel company’s government registration.
The officer has been identified as K C Joshi, principal chief material officer of North Eastern Railway (Gorakhpur).
The CBI laid a trap and nabbed Joshi red-handed while he was accepting the bribe. In a search conducted later at his residence in Gorakhpur and Noida, the CBI seized Rs 2.61 crores.
The CBI stated that the complainant is a contractor who had bagged recent contract with railways to provide services to the North Eastern Railway to provide three trucks on a contractual basis for Rs 80,000 per truck per month. The accused demanded bribe of Rs. 7 lakhs to get his work started also threatened to get his contract cancelled his registration at Government e-Marketplace portal as well as the recent contract bagged by him if he fails to do so.
