CBI arrests then assistant commissioner of Income Tax of Gujarat in bribery case

New Delhi, April 19
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested then Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Ahmedabad(Gujarat) in connection with the bribery case of Rs. 30 lakhs.
The CBI had registered the case in October 2022 against the Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Ahmedabad on the request of Gujarat Government and further Notification from Government of India related to bribery of Rs.30 Lakh.
The then Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax had facilitated the escape of said Additional Commissioner from his office by helping, creating a ruckus during trap proceedings on October 4, 2022 laid by Anti Corruption Bureau of Gujarat. It was further alleged that then Additional Commissioner of Income Tax(Central Range-I), Ahmedabad before escaping from the detection of the State ACB had handed over two mobile handsets to said Assistant Commissioner.
In addition to that, the then Assistant Commissioner disposed of the two mobile handsets by way of throwing the same in Sabarmati River on the directions of said Additional Commissioner of Income Tax. CBI has recovered both the mobiles(including one phone of Real Me make) from the Sabarmati River with the help of divers and other agencies using diving equipment & Remotely Operated Vehicle equipped with SONAR technology.
