CBI files supplementary chargesheet in Chandigarh police officers' disproportionate assets case

New Delhi, March 9
The CBI has filed a supplementary chargesheet against an absconding head constable in a case of bribery in the disproportionate assets case of police couple Inspector Harinder Sekhon and Paramjit Kaur.
Harinder Sekhon had joined the Chandigarh Police as an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in October 1997. He was promoted as Sub-Inspector (SI) in 2005 and got promotion to the rank of Inspector in 2015.
Head Constable Pawan Kumar and two civilians, including brother of local BJP leader Anil Dubey, Manish Dubey, were booked for accepting Rs 3 lakh bribe in July 2023.
The CBI had arrested Manish Dubey and his associate, Ajay Kumar from Panchkula.
The complainant against Deepak had alleged to the CBI that a bribe from him was being demanded on behalf of Head Constable Pawan Kumar and Inspector Harinder Singh Sekhon for not implicating him in a case under the Arms Act.
Earlier, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against Manish Dubey and Anil Kumar, alias Kuki, in the court. Head constable Pawan Kumar had joined the CBI investigation twice but he went underground when a notice prior to his arrest was served on him.
Pawan had filed an anticipatory bail in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which rejected it. Inspector Harinder Singh Sekhon had also joined the CBI investigation.
The CBI booked Sekhon and his wife while probing their properties, concluding that the assets of the two increased from Rs 13.22 lakh to Rs 1.85 crore between 2017 and 2022, representing a growth of 80.30 per cent.
