Kulwinder Kaur, the constable was upset over Ranaut's remarks on women participating in farmers' protest where her mother was also a participant

New Delhi, June 7

A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable allegedly slapped the newly elected MP from Mandi Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut during a security check at the Chandigarh airport.

The incident took place when the actor turned politician was undergoing a security check before her flight to Delhi.

The constable was identified as Kulwinder Kaur posted at the Chandigarh airport who has been suspended now.

Several videos of the incident were widely shared on social media.  In one of the videos, Kaur can be heard taking strong objection to Kangana Ranaut's controversial remarks during the 2020 farmers' protest and slapping her.

The BJP MP claimed that a constable approached her from the side and hit her in the face before beginning to hurl abuses at her. When Kangana questioned the constable about the reason for the assault, the constable responded by saying she supported the farmer protests.

The firebrand actor turned politician had courted a controversy when she had made a statement that farmers were protesting in Delhi because they were paid Rs 100 or Rs 200. At the time, my mother was one of the protesters," Kaur said in the purported video Kaur's mother was a part of the protest which made her take a strong step towards her.

Ranaut had mistakenly identified an elderly woman at the protest as Bilkis Bano, a prominent figure from the Shaheen Bagh protests.

The actor has then deleted tweet, had claimed that the woman was "available for Rs 100" to participate in protests.

The CISF arrested the constable and a court of inquiry has been ordered against her.

Terming the incident a serious matter, National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma called for serious action and said the panel had taken up the matter with the CISF. Those responsible for security at airport are themselves breaching security.

In a video statement titled, "Shocking rise in terror and violence in Punjab' Ranaut spoke about the incident and said she was safe and fine.
