CISF receives 10 medals for gallantry and 23 for meritorious services

10 officers have received prestigious medal for Gallantry while two officers received President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. 23 officials received Police Medal for Meritorious Service

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Officers and personnel have been awarded with the prestigious Medal for Gallantry, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, President's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service and Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day-2024, in appreciation of their outstanding services in various fields.

10 officers have received prestigious medal for Gallantry while two officers received President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. 23 officials received Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The President's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service was given two officials while fire service medal for meritorious service was awarded to four officials.

Speaking about one of the gallant incidents, the officials said that company No. 757 of CISF was deployed at Janipur Distt, Jammu for maintaining law and order with local Police.

On the intervening night of 21/22.04.2022, Head Constable  R Nitin, Constable Waded Vithal Shantappa and three  other CISF personnel were deployed at Sunjawan Chowk Naka (Jammu) alongwith local Police personnel. 

Suddenly they came under heavy indiscriminate firing  from the terrorists. They instantaneously took safe positions and retaliated the fire. The terrorists were also firing grenades using UBGL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher). On immediate retaliation by  CISF and police personnel, the terrorists stopped firing.  

In the meantime, unaware about the incident, CISF shift bus carrying CISF personnel came near the Sunjawan Naka for shift changing. As the bus reached near Sunjawan Naka, the terrorists again started firing at the bus and also used UBGL.  Immediately, Head Constable  Pramod Patra and Constable Rajesh Kumar de-boarded  the bus and positioned themselves for retaliation. Remaining CISF personnel under the supervision of Asstt. Sub Inspector Shankar Prasad Patel took position in the bus and opened firing on the terrorists.

After some time, in a well coordinated joint search and counter terrorist operation by Police and CAPF personnel, two terrorists were neutralised and huge quantity of Arms & Ammunitions were recovered from the two terrorists.

In the said attack, Assistant Sub Inspector S P Patel of CISF made supreme sacrifice in the service of the Nation. Constable Waded Vithal Shantappa sustained grievous bullet injuries. Head Constable R Nitin, Head Constable Pramod Patra, Head Constable Surendra Kumar Baliyan, Constable Rajesh Kumar, Constable Amir Soren, Constable Sunny Kumar and Constable Punit Kumar sustained splinter injuries.

Due to the valiant response by CISF personnel, a major terrorist attack was not only averted but terrorists were contained & eliminated also.
