CISF takes over security at Kolkata RG Kar Medical College following protests of doctors, students

CISF will now oversee the security of the hospital premises, while Kolkata Police will continue to manage law and order, including maintaining their police outpost within the hospital

New Delhi, August 23

Two coys of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel were deployed at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital following a Supreme Court order during a hearing on the rape-murder of a trainee doctor.

The officials stated that the CISF will now oversee the security of the hospital premises, while Kolkata Police will continue to manage law and order, including maintaining their police outpost within the hospital.

CISF DIG K Pratap Singh told media, “We have already been deployed. You will find us deployed in all the shifts. Let us do our job, our people have come, and we have deployed ourselves". 

Medical students and doctors have been protesting since over a week in Kolkata and other parts of India demanding security for their profession. The doctors in Kolkata have been protesting against the incident of horrendous rape of a young doctor who fell prey to a porn addict man, Sonjoy Roy, previously booked for physical abuse of women. 

The girl was not only brutally rape but assaulted in a violent manner before getting gagged to death. 

Earlier, the Bengal government transferred three top officials of the hospital, including the principal and vice principal, following protests by students who demanded the removal of those on administrative duty when the hospital was vandalised on August 15. 

West Bengal CM Mamta Bannerjee who has been facing the ire due to her statement had oedred formation of a Special investigation Team to probe the ‘financial irregularities’ in the RG Kar Medical College.
