CRPF and DRG kill six Maoists in gunfight at Chattisgarh-Telangana border

New Delhi, January 3
Six Maoists, including four women, were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Pesalapadu forest area bordering Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem in Chattisgarh’s Sukma district.
The joint operation by the two states was carried out by the Greyhounds forces from Telangana and assisted by Chhattisgarh’s District Reserve Guards (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The security forces had received information was that they were preparing IEDs to attack police.
The officials said that the Maoists are believed to be part of the Cherla Area Committee of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). One of their senior leaders is suspected to be among the dead.
The officials stated the forces launched an operation after they received a tip-off about a group of Maoists camping in the Pesalpadu area, around 400km from Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur.
A joint operation by Chattisgarh forces and Telangana Greyhounds was taken up and the encounter with the group of Maoists occurred between 6:30 am to 7 am.
In April this year, 22 security personnel lost their lives in an ambush by Maoists at the Sukma-Bijapur border in Chhattisgarh.
