Dawood Ibrahim's nephew Sohail Kaskar wanted in India flees to Pakistan from the clutches of US agencies

New Delhi, January 13

In a major setback to India, Sohail Kaskar, the nephew of Dawood Ibrahim who was arrested for narco terrorism by US agencies has reportedly fled back to Pakistan. After severe efforts from NSA Ajit Doval, the Mumbai Police was in the process of seeking his custody.

Sohail was caught by the US probe agencies in a case related to narco terror.

The officials stated that US agencies informed the Mumbai Police recently that Sohail has fled to Pakistan via Dubai.

The Mumbai Police were in touch with US agencies that had held Kaskar in a narco terror case.

The officials added that a call with Kaskar's voice was recently traced, which confirmed his location in Pakistan. The same was later corroborated by the US agencies.

Kaskar was wanted in India and the Mumbai Police were in touch with the US authorities to seek his repatriation.

An official from Mumbai Police said, "It is suspected to be a long time since Sohail managed to flee to Pakistan. It was only after his voice was intercepted by the Indian intelligence agencies and confirmed whether it was Sohail, it came to the fore. The US agencies had his custody for narco terrorism case and he was supposed to be brought to India for the role of his aides in terror cases in the country".

The escape of Sohail has given a huge blow to the Mumbai Police as well as Indian intelligence agencies as the noise around Sohail was getting tightened from months. Sohail's custody was the key to many terror attacks and narco terrorism activities against India from across the border.

Sohail had left India in 1989, when he was 10 years old, along with his father Noora Kaskar, younger brother of Dawood Ibrahim. Noora died in 2009 in a Karachi hospital after his kidneys failed.

Sohail was arrested in Spain in June 2014 and extradited to US in September 2015 on charges of narco-terrorism, providing material support to Colombian rebels and sending heroin into the United States. Sohail, along with three others, was indicted by the US Justice Department in 2015 for his alleged role in the conspiracy.

Sohail was sentenced by a US Federal Court to ‘time served’, after he pled guilty on four counts, paving the way for his deportation to India, as he was caught travelling on an Indian passport. India and the US signed a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty in 2005 under which he was supposed to be brought to India.
