Delhi Crime Branch busted two inter state rackets of black marketing of Remdesivir injections

New Delhi, April 23

Delhi Crime Branch busted two inter state rackets of black marketing of Remdesivir injections in Delhi through Punjab.

DCP Monika Bhardwaj stated that in view of Global Pandemic COVID-19 and scarcity of life saving drugs, some gangs are involved in storage and black marketing of these drugs. These gangs are playing with the precious human lives. 

There are instances of black marketing and scarcity of these drugs especially Ramdesivir injection primarily used in treatment of patient suffering from COVID-19 after which the crime branch formed a special team to bust such gangs, she added. 

The accused have been identified as Talwinder Singh alias Sajan from Amritsar, Punjab and Jitender Kumar from Roshanara, Delhi have been arrested and 3 vials of life saving drug ‘Ramdesivir’ have been recovered.

The police teams are raiding in Punjab to nab the co-accused persons and to recover more vials. He has disclosed a whole gang operating in major cities supplying Remdesivir at exorbitant prices of 25000-40000.


In another raid, two more accused persons Shoaib and Mohan were arrested with 10 vials of life saving drug ‘Remdesivir’.
The crime branch laid a trap near GTB Nagar at around 01:15 PM, a person was apprehended who was later identified as Talwinder Singh alias Sajan from Amritsar, Punjab and three vials of ‘Remdesivir’ injections were also recovered from his possession.


The officials stated that during interrogation, the accused disclosed that he was allegedly black marketing the injection on higher price as the demand of the injection was shooting and there was scarcity of the same.

The officials added that the accused supplied the injection on pan country basis through one courier company based at Chandni Chowk.

On the instance of the accused raids were conducted at Chandni Chowk, Delhi where the supplier accused Jitendra Kumar from Roshanara was also apprehended who used to charge rupees Rs. 2000 as commission for supply of one vial. Both accused persons were confronted and sustained interrogation was done. It revealed that there is chain of persons involved in this syndicate of illegal hoarding and supplying of these life saving drugs. On the basis of the interrogation and leads developed, teams are sent to Amritsar and other places in Punjab to nab the co-accused persons.

In addition to that, the agency also apprehended two persons from Near Batra Hospital while they were trying to sell the injections ‘Remdesivir’ at exorbitant prices in Black. 10 vials of life saving ‘Remdesivir’ injections were recovered from the accused persons.  

The officials added that in his interrogation, Talwinder disclosed that he used to hoard the injections in big quantity and supply them as per demand. The accused Jitender managed the courier service and he ensured the supply of the injections throughout the country. Jitender received Rs. 2000/- per injection as commission.

The crime branch is further interrogating the accused. The names of more persons have cropped up which are not being disclosed to unearth the gang.  
The crime branch teams have been dispatched to Amritsar and other districts of Punjab to unearth the complete chain involved in supplying/hoarding/black marketing of life-saving drugs and to arrest the source and further recoveries. 
 
The crime branch has booked the accused under Section 420, 188, 120B, 34 IPC and sections 3/7 Essential Commodities Act and 3 Epidemic Diseases Act.
