After the video of two traffic policemen stuck on the bonnet of a speeding car in southwest Delhi went viral and drew immense criticism, the Delhi Police apprehended two 17-year-old boys.
The police stated that Assistant Sub-Inspector Pramod Singh and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan of the Vasant Vihar traffic circle were injured in the hit and run incident.
The police informed that one of the accused is studying in an open university and the other still in school, were driving a car belonging to the father of one of them when they jumped the red light. The car’s owner, a resident of Vasant Kunj, has been slapped with a charge under the Motor Vehicles Act.
A video of the two policemen being dragged while on the bonnet of the car soon went viral on social media platforms. Sailesh signalled the car to stop and the driver stopped the car. But when asked to step out, in an attempt to escape, the driver sped away dragging the officers for approximately 20 meters.
An FIR was registered under sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), and 3(5) (joint liability) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
