Delhi Police arrest a couple for kidnapping an infant from Safdarjung hospital

The women accused allegedly took the baby away after befriending the mother and claiming to buy some clothes for it : Police

New Delhi, November 18

The Delhi Police rescued a 45-day-old baby boy who was allegedly kidnapped by a woman and her partner from Safdarjung Hospital. The accused, a couple were detained on a train.

The accused were identified as Rohit Kumar and Shazia. The government railway police arrested the couple from the Sadbhavana Express and alerted Delhi Police, who then arrested and brought them to the capital.

The baby’s mother Pooja Devi told the police that she met Shazia at Safdarjung Hospital, where the former had come for her husband’s treatment. Shazia started playing with the baby and allegedly took him along on the pretext of buying some clothes and fled. She also changed the baby’s clothes to avoid detection by police, police added. 

The police added that the couple lived at their rented accommodation in Noida. Shazia told the police that she was divorced and childless and hence decided to kidnap the baby.
