DELHI POLICE ARREST A DREADED CRIMINAL FOR PROPERTY DEALER'S MURDER IN PUNJABI BAGH

New Delhi, March 3

The Delhi Police West District arrested a dreaded criminal from Uttar Pradesh who allegedly murdered a property dealer in Punjabi Bagh two weeks ago. 

The accused has been identified as Anil Kumar (58), a resident of Nihal Vihar in Delhi who originally resides in Sitapur of UP.

The police said, the victim Radhey Shyam (52) was found lying in a pool of blood near Madipur Bus stand on Rohtak road in Punjabi Bagh, with multiple wounds by some sharp edged arm. He was rushed to hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

The Punjabi Bagh police station had registered a case of murder and took up the investigation.

DCP West Urvija Goel stated that the accused tried to mislead the police however confessed to his crime after an investigation trail that reaches Sitapur in UP.

The police added that Radhey Shyam was self employed as a property dealer in the area of Sadar Bazar and Bara Hindu Rao. In connection with his livelihood, he would visit Sadar Bazaar and other areas everyday and come back in the night.  

With the help of technical surveillance of deceased’s work area revealed that on the fateful day, the victim left for his home after 12 PM from Sadar Bazaar. As no mobile phone was found present at the spot where he was found lying dead on that day, it was suspected that the culprits took the same with them. Family members of victim provided the mobile number used by him which was placed on electronic surveillance. Several contact persons, besides family members, neighbours and friends of the victim were contacted and detailed interrogation was conducted. Scope of search and analysis of CCTV recordings was extended from his work area to his place of residence but no breakthrough could be achieved.

The police added that the stolen phone of deceased was found to be activated in the area of Sitapur in UP on February 26. The Delhi Police that launched a search operation in Sitapur found the accused was hiding in village Bansura. The police team spread the word that they were nine to ten persons from Delhi who were in Sitapur for a ceremony to ensure the accused didn't smell the trap and escape. 

When the police zeroed in on a man who had used the mobile phone of victim, he revealed that he recently used a mobile phone from a person called Babuji who indeed had visited the place but has now left for Delhi. He also provided crucial information as to the probable age, facial features, height and some other relevant details of the person who had sold him the phone. The team had to return back to Delhi. 

The investigators however intensified their search and a database of suspected culprits was prepared on the basis of available information and several persons with criminal tendencies and involvements were examined but to no avail. The police then received that a person of similar appearance, who has also recently visited UP in order to attend some ceremony, would be coming at or around Cement Siding at Punjabi Bagh. The accused was arrested in a trap. 

During interrogation, he revealed that his mother was an employee with GB Pant hospital and before breathing her last, she left two built up homes in the area of Nihal Vihar. The accused had started taking drugs and to suffice his addiction, he sold out both his ancestral properties and was now dependent on the money he found after committing snatching and robbery. On that fateful day, he had visited the area of Sadar Bazar and was returning on his motorcycle to Nihal Vihar in the night when he found the victim in an inebriated condition and offered to drop him at Peeragarhi. However after reaching the destination, he asked the victim to hand over all his belongings at the knife point but the deceased did not succumb to his threats and a scuffle between both ensued.  The accused allegedly slashed the wrist of the hand of deceased with which he had caught hold of accused. 

The police recovered a knife, mobile phone, a motorcycle and the deceased's blood stained clothes from the accused. 

He was found allegedly involved in nine other criminal cases in the city. 


The police are further investigating the case.
