New Delhi, March 3
The Delhi Police arrested a medical student from Haryana in the hit and run death case of a government doctor in Delhi.
The accused has been identified as Mayank (21) who is a second-year student from the Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar.
The police have found out that Mayank was allegedly driving his father’s Mahindra KUV car at the time.
As per the case details, during the accident, the victim Dr Rajiv Ranjan (41), a senior resident doctor at a government hospital, and Manish Kumar (39), an OT technician, were on their bike when a vehicle hit them at Najafgarh.
The accident left both Dr. Rajiv and Manish Kumar dead.
The duo were riding a pillion on a bike and going towards the metro station when the overspeeding car hit them and the accused fled from the spot.
The police identified the accused after scanning numerous CCTV footage to identity the vehicle that hit them. The CCTV footage helped the police to identify the car and they found out that it was registered in the name of his father Surender.
The police stated that Surender was interrogated about the accident but he had allegedly mislead police saying that the car was being used by one of his employees from his firm. After a thorough interrogation, he had confessed that it was indeed his son driving the car.
The police have seized the Mahindra KUV car from the accused’s residence.
The police are now gearing up to take legal action against Surender for misleading police.
