Delhi Police arrests an Aligarh man for impersonating as CBI officer

The police found out that the accused had edited the ID card and promotion list through some mobile app to flaunt them before his friends and relatives in his native place

New Delhi, January 16

The Delhi Police arrested a 25-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh for allegedly impersonating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer. 

The arrested identified as Lalit Kumar, claimed to be a CBI Sub-Inspector. The man who was eyeing a job in CBI was reportedly preparing for Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) conducted by the Staff Selection Commission, the police said.

The accused got caught when he handed out the photo of a CBI ID card on his mobile phonewhen a police patrol team intercepted his car near Shadley Public School, Subhash Nagar, in Rajouri Garden area.

The fake ID card was not all, he claimed a promotion in CBI. The police found out that the accused had edited the ID card and promotion list through some mobile app to flaunt them before his friends and relatives in his native place. He had come to Delhi with four of his friends to celebrate his promotion in the CBI. The police verified the card with CBI headquarters and found it to be fake. 

The police have seized his mobile phone which contained the forged ID card, a roll board with his name, and a promotion list with his name.

The police have registered a case under sections 204, 205 and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
