Delhi Police celebrates 78th Raising Day with spectacular parade and event






New Delhi, February 17
Delhi Police celebrated its 78th Raising Day with a grand ceremonial parade at Parade Ground, New Police Lines, Kingsway camp, Delhi. MoS (Home) Nityanand Rai took the salute as Chief Guest in the presence of Delhi CP Sanjay Arora.
MoS Rai inspected the parade led by parade commander Vivek Bhagat, ACP. The six companies of Delhi Police including Ceremonial Armed Police company, Anti-Riot Squad of Delhi Armed Police, Delhi Police Female Contingent, Security Battalion Squad, Commando Squad and Delhi Traffic Police Company marched on the beats of famous Delhi Police Band.
The march was followed by Dog Squad, Female Bicycle Patrolling Squad, Motorcycle Squad of Delhi Traffic Police, North-East Assistance Team Van, PCR Van, All Women PCR Van, Prakram Vahan, PCR Tourist Vehicle, Prakhar Vahan, SWAT Vahan, Vajra Vahan, Vikrant Vahan, Road Safety Vehicle, Nyayik Abhiraksha Vahan, Shaurya Vahan, Water Cannon and Mounted Police Squad. The Facial Recognition System Vahan which plays an important role in searching missing persons and identifying criminals and Delhi Police Mobile Forensic Van were also a part of today’s grand parade.
As part of special campaign to control cyber-crime and to make the general public aware of the cyber criminals who are cheating common people with the lure of money or fear of digital arrest, a short drama performance was also held just after the march past. The drama performance was a collaborative effort of IFSO Unit of Delhi Police Special Cell, Delhi Theatre Group and Delhi Police Academy.
Speaking on the occasion the MoS Nityanand Rai, congratulated everyone present on the occasion of 78th Raising Day of Delhi Police and also saluted the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and expressed gratitude to their families.
Rai said that the Delhi Police is one of the best police forces of the country. Delhi being National Capital, is a centre of political, diplomatic, religious, cultural and social activities and during the G-20 Summit, Delhi Police has played an important role in making this event spectacular and memorable. The Chief Guest further stated that Delhi Police faces challenges in different forms and the success achieved by the force shows the adoption of smart policing techniques as urged by the Prime Minister of India.
While praising the force Rai said that handling of Traffic Management, safety of citizens, protecting dignitaries, important institutions and other important matters is a proof of the professionalism, efficiency and devotion of Delhi Police and the force is working as a strong pillar in fight against organised crime, cyber-crime and also for the safety of women.
Rai further stated that under the aegis of Government of India’s i4C, the Delhi Police is working with great promptness against cyber-crime and also praised the readiness with which Delhi Police are taking advantage of digital initiatives and technological advancements. He also applauded the special initiatives of Delhi Police focused on women and child safety, community policing and senior citizens, enabling the force to win trust of the public. .
In his welcome address, Delhi CP Sanjay Arora, greeted all guests on the occasion of Delhi Police Raising Day and expressed his gratitude towards the Chief Guest for participation in today’s event. The CP Delhi further stated that Delhi Police is committed to maintain law & order, ensure the safety of citizens and face the emerging challenges and during last year Delhi Police handled a total of 10,860 dharna demonstrations peacefully. Similarly, the General Elections to the Lok Sabha and Delhi Assembly elections were also conducted in peaceful and professional manner.
Delhi CP highlighted that the first priority of Delhi Police is to prevent crimes, for which strict action is being taken continuously against the criminals and resultantly in the year 2024, there has been a 4% reduction in heinous crimes as compared to the year 2022 and 1.5% reduction as compared to the year 2023. There has also been fall in number of robberies, snatching and cases of molestation against women during the same period as compared to the year 2022 & 2023. With respect to long term development of human resources, the CP Delhi apprised that the Delhi Police has completed the process of 10,900 new recruitments during last year in a record time and also expressed his gratitude towards MHA for their support.
Praising the police personnel who are fighting against criminals without even caring for their lives, the CP Delhi stated that during last year more than 90 of our brave members have received serious injuries on their bodies at the hands of criminals. In alignment to the call of Hon'ble Prime Minister and Home Minister for a drug-free India, Delhi Police has intensified its action against drug abuse. In 2024, more than 21,232 kg of drugs worth about Rs 3282 crore have been destroyed.
The CP Delhi while speaking on the well-being of its personnel and their family members further added that ‘Smita’ a therapy centre for special children of Delhi Police personnel was established in 2024 where at present 52 children are being looked after by a team of therapists. CP Delhi also congratulated the medal winners and Best Marching Contingent of Republic Day 2025.
MoS Rai also presented medals to 44 police personnel for Gallantry, Distinguished Service and Meritorious Service. The Police Medal for Gallanty (Posthumus) to Late ASI Shambhu Dayal Meena was received by wife of the Late ASI, Smt. Sanjana.
Insp. Rampal, SHO received the trophy of best police station for PS Ambedkar Nagar, while Inspectors Sanjeev Dodi and Adesh Prakash received the joint second position trophy for PS Kirti Nagar and Jama Masjid as SHOs respectively. The third position trophy was received by Insp. Manish Kumar for PS Anand Vihar.
Rai also visited the PFWS stall, which showcased the skilful work and products made by Police families.
Ritu Arora, President PFWS and other office bearers of the PFWS were also present during the visit. Smt. Ritu Arora, President PFWS, in her interaction with Hon’ble Chief Guest, briefed him regarding the works done by the PFWS.
