Delhi Police destroy 1643 kg of narcotics worth Rs 2622 crores

The Delhi Police organised a mega drug destruction event, as part of its ‘Drug-Free Delhi by 2027’ campaign, destroying 1,643 kg of narcotics worth Rs 2,622 crore in the international market.
The event was held at the premises of Biotic Waste Solutions Private Limited in Jahangirpuri, was attended by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and Delhi CP Sanjay Arora.
Speaking on the occasion, Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Devesh Chandra Srivastava, said: “In compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders, committees were formed at different levels by the Delhi Police to oversee the destruction of drugs seized from traffickers. These committees compiled a list of confiscated drugs from cases between 2004 and 2024, which had received disposal orders from the court.”
The Delhi Police stated that among the destroyed substances were 529.456 kg of cannabis, 27.347 kg of hashish, 11.580 kg of heroin, 517.875 kg of cocaine, 15 gm of MDMA, 542.3 kg of poppy straw, 8 kg of ketamine, and 6.5 kg of ephedrine. Further, 517.7 kg of cocaine was destroyed, which was part of a massive 1,289 kg seizure made last year from multiple states.
Over the last two years, the Delhi Police has destroyed 41,395 kg of drugs, with an estimated international value of Rs 5,997.75 crore. This included 2,888 kg of drugs destroyed on December 21, 2022; 15,700 kg on June 26, 2023; 10,631 kg on February 20, 2024; 10,601 kg on December 17, 2024; and 1,575 kg on January 24, this year, the police added.
In 2024 alone, 1,789 NDPS cases were registered in Delhi, leading to the arrest of 2,290 drug traffickers, the police said, adding that investigations have resulted in the seizure of assets worth over Rs 4 crore, with an additional Rs 5 crore in assets under scrutiny.
Saxena posted on X, “The Delhi Police is unwavering in its commitment to the Centre’s ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ against narcotics. We have already destroyed thousands of kilograms of illegal substances, demonstrating our relentless pursuit of a drug-free society.”
“The success of this campaign is vital for our nation’s development and for empowering our talented youth,” he added.
