Delhi Police go beyond the call of duty to help ailing Covid patients, arranged oxygen cylinders

New Delhi, April 18

Delhi Police while ensuring strictest weekend curfew and Covid Appropriate Behaviour in Delhi showed a humanitarian face in a situation where a hospital required oxygen cylinders urgently.

The Delhi Police Headquarters said that at around 1.30 pm a distress call was received from Mansa Ram Hospital in Nangloi in Outer district where 35 covid patients are admitted that their Oxygen supply has run out and the existing stock won't last for more than an hour. 

The Hospital had tried all thier sources but oxygen cylinders were not available. Hence at last they made a frantic call to police that lives of 35 patients were in danger, informed  Hospital Director, Sh Rajesh Dabas of Mansa Ram Hospital on Nangloi Nazafgarh road in the jurisdiction of Nihal Vihar police station. He further stated that he has contacted all the concerned and could not get any response due to shortage of Oxygen. 

In this momentus anxious situation outer district police team under leadership of Addl DCP Sudhanshu Dhama coordinated with several places.  Two teams of Nihal Vihar police station immediately rushed to Mundka and Bawana to arrange oxygen cylinders from suppliers, officials said.

Nihal Vihar police officials were asked to coordinate with supplier at Bawana facility who stated that there is scarcity of oxygen cylinders due to the  ongoing pandemic. They was apprised of the emergency at Mansa Ram Hospital and was requested to provide at least 10 Oxygen cylinders immediately and 10 more after half an hour. Considering the request, they provided 20 oxygen gas cylinders immediately.  

The police team from Nihal Vihar police station escorted the vehicle carrying 20 Oxygen cylinders to Mansa Ram hospital and delivered to the hospital in the nick of time, in a timely demonstration of Delhi Police as #DilKiPolice. 

Director Mansa Ram Hospital thanked Delhi Police for their immediate response, timely help and smooth coordination to save the lives of 35 covid patients from danger.

In another instance, humanitarian action of Delhi Police went beyond the boundaries of Delhi when  SHO Bharat Nagar Mohar Singh provided the most needed medicine Remidisvir injection to Bhopal.

It came to the notice of Inspr. Mohar Singh Meena, SHO Bharat Nagar that one covid patient Karan Singh (Age 67 Years) was admitted in ICU of Silver Line hospital, Bhopal (SPO2 level 75, Pr 45, Rr. 25). Doctors prescribed that he is in dire need of Remidisvir injection. During this emergency situation, they tried everywhere but to no avail. Then, Mohar Singh arranged 5 vials of Remidisvir injection and immediately got it airlifted to Bhopal. The condition of the patient is now stable. 

In the third incident, an old ailing woman, North District Police was provided medical help and got her treatment though a professional doctor. At around 12:00 pm, one person Mohd. Vakil (50) a resident of Bihar, who along with his wife Samina Khatoon (45) works as labourers in Red Fort parking lot, came to PP Red Fort and informed that his wife was not well and need help. The couple has been living in a cluster behind Red Fort for the last 14 - 15 yrs.

Immediately, police from PP Red Fort visited his Jhuggi. His wife was feeling weak and suffocated inside the hutment. She was shifted to an open area. The doctor who was called informed old that the woman did not have any COVID-19 symptoms but she was very weak. The family has been ensured by police that she will be provided help if needed in future also.

In another incident, the South East District Police aided senior citizens. Krishna Sikander (70), a retired professor of English literature from Delhi University as well as senior citizen residing in New Friends Colony called police for her medicines. Her children are settled in USA. Constable Devender immediately rushed to the medicalshop and delivered the medicine at her door step.  "Delhi Police is the lifeline for  lonely senior citizens like us," she poignantly said.

In Sarita Vihar, Vimal Kishore Seth (85), a retired IAS officer and former member of CAT and a senior citizen, whose children are settled abroad. Since he is a heart patient and is under treatment from Fortis Hospital, yesterday he called beat officer constable Babulal and shared his difficulty in visiting the hospital due to weekend curfew.  

Babulal took initiative and got issued a movement pass for him and delivered the same at his door step. 

In Govind Puri area on receiving information that one Lalita Sibbu did not have any money to buy food. The beat staff immediately reached at Tuglaqabad  Village Delhi and found that due to lock down she could not arrange money for buying food items for her family. The beat staff immediately arranged and provided Ration wheat flour, Rice, Oil and other house hold items  to the family.  

A family in Kalkaji Police Station area contacted the police who provided food to the family whose all members are diagnosed covid positive and were in home quarantine.  

The same police station helped Gaurav Bagga and his wife who were home quarantine and were in a dire need of oxygen.  When SHO came to know he got arranged oxygen cylinder from a company providing cylinder though a hospital.

In another incident, intimation was received at Dwarka North police station egarding death of a covid positive patient namely Gangawati Sharma from Sector 13, Dwarka who was 93. The police arranged an ambulance for taking the body to RTRM hospital, Jaffarpur Kalan. The body was shifted to RTRM Hospital for further procedure and later, for cremation.
