Delhi Police registers first case under the new criminal laws

Ahead of the laws coming into force, posters educating people about the new laws were put up at all police stations across the national capital

New Delhi, July 1

The three new criminal laws have come into effect across the country from July 1. The Delhi Police registered their first case under the new laws. 

The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will replace the British-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and the Indian Evidence Act, respectively

An FIR was registered at Delhi's Kamla Market Police Station, against a street vendor for obstructing a footover bridge at the New Delhi Railway Station.

The case was registered under Section 285 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Ahead of the laws coming into force, posters educating people about the new laws were put up at all police stations across the national capital. The posters were incorporated with information about laws and what changes they will bring.
