New Delhi, June 5
The Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana removed DCP Shankar Chaudhary from the Delhi Police who was serving as DCP Dwarka district in the national capital.
DCP Shankar Chaudhary’s name appeared in an alleged brawl at a pub 'Uncultured' at Greater Kailash 1.
An official order released by Delhi Police Headquarters said, “Shri Shankar Choudhary IPS 2011 is relieved from the post of DCP/Dwarka, Delhi with immediate effect and directed to report to the Police Headquarters till further orders. The order is issued by the Commissioner of Police, Delhi.” Issued with approval.”
The sudden removal of DCP Chaudhary was announced late on June 4 night though the Delhi Police called the incident a "family matter".
The said incident took place at the pub where a woman was injured taken to Max Hospital. Her husband made a PCR call alleging that a DCP rank officer of Delhi Police assaulted his wife at a birthday party at a private club.
However, later the complainant withdrew the complaint due to ‘miss communication’ between them.
According to the complainant, she along with her husband had gone to a family party held at ‘Uncultured Club’ where DCP Shankar Choudhary had also reached along with his family.
The woman filed another letter with Greater Kailash police station canceling her complaint that stated, “After 1-2 hours the DCP and his wife left the party and around 12.30-1.00 pm two boys threw a glass of glass at each other, which hit my forehead".
The two boys claimed that they are friends of DCP Dwarka Chaudhary.
A video of the incident went viral on social media where the injured woman had claimed she was assaulted by the DCP.
Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa said that the DCP’s name created an uproar due to a miscommunication.
The Delhi Police in their official statement said, "A PCR call was recieved in the wee hours of 4th June at PS Greater Kailash in which it was mentioned that an officer of Delhi Police of the rank of DCP has assaulted a lady at a birthday party in a private club. Subsequently a video clip of the victim was recieved wherein she stated that she along with her family were celebrating birthday party of a family member. The concerned officer was also present alongwith his family. During the function a glass fell upon the lady & she was injured. The husband of the lady got infuriated upon this as one person in the party was playing with the glass at that time. Due to a miscommunication the name of the DCP cropped up in the ensuing commotion. The matter has been resolved as it was a family issue".
The Delhi Police however later relieved him off his duty. DCP Chaudhary has been asked to report to the Headquarters while Ministry of Home Affairs was apprised of the matter.
