Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava presented the Certificate of Excellence issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs and awarded by Union Home Minister Amit Shaht to Begumpur police station in Delhi.
The certificate of excellence was issued to Inspector Jai Bhagwan, SHO Begampur under Rohini District.
Delhi Police Commissioner, SN Shrivastava said, "It is indeed an honour and moment of happiness for us to see one of our police stations getting selected among the top ten police stations in the country. The work of Begumpur police station should inspire all police stations and districts".
The Delhi Police officials said that the ranking is done on the basis of prefixed parameters by the Ministry of Home Affairs annually, which were developed based on the directions of Prime Minister in the DGs Conference in Kutch, Gujarat in 2015 and are conducted to incentivize effective functioning of police stations and bring healthy competition among them.
The officials added that surveys were conducted across the country, with minimum notification time to capture actual results and the police stations were selected based on data analysis, direct observation and public feedback.
The Survey team also randomly visited various areas i.e. Rajiv Nagar, Jain Nagar, Begumpur etc falling under the jurisdiction of Begumpur police station and recorded citizens’ feedback. They also noticed checking being conducted at the pickets and observed the actual on ground situation.
The Survey team further analysed the CCTNS entries and Records of Police Station. They visited the Malkhanas as well as inspected the basic amenities for visitors, waiting areas, toilets, drinking water, public facilitation desks, barracks, separate rooms for women constable, safety and security of armory and other parameters as per the standards for best police station, and adjudged PS Begumpur as the Best Police Station in Delhi, officials said.
Inspector Jai Bhagwan, SHO Begumpur under the supervision ACP B. K. Singh, Begumpur has taken several initiatives to promote community friendly policing like child friendly room, redressing the complaints of vulnerable sections on a priority basis and stringent action against gangsters and property offenders while being accessible for public.
The Begumpur police had given special emphasis is given to welfare of staff by providing high quality work environment, hygienic barracks and toilets, best mess facilities, weekly rest for the staff and rewards for the good work. Further, in order to promote standardized delivery of services to the public constant efforts are being made for digitization of records and processes.
Begumpur police has placed specific focus on community engagement while sensitizing their police personnel to respond to general public on priority. Their unique initiative of Accessibility To All was highly appreciated by the Ministry of Home affairs. The Beat staff are made aware about all the activities that happen in the PS in the Morning Briefings so that when any member of public approaches the beat staff, the issues are attended to promptly and they remain sensitive and alert to all emerging situations.
The Initiative also included regular interaction with RWAs under Neighbourhood watch scheme, interactions with Senior Citizens etc, through Whatsapp Groups for immediate redressal of grievances of the people. So as to bolster effective policing, staff of PS Begumpur in coordination with members of public got installed around 400 CCTV cameras in 2019-2020.
Insp. Jai Bhagwan, SHO Begampur also took an initiative to involve good Samaritans and youth in order to control crime. A gang of snatchers and robbers was apprehended by Begumpur police actively involved in committing crime in Sector 37, Rohini through active engagement of youth who participated in police patrolling during evening and night hours for 20-25 days.
The Hands-on approach to policing along with prompt response was instrumental in ensuring peace and tranquility in the area.
Delhi CP congratulated the staff of Begampur police station for achieving this feat and expect that the way police stations of Delhi are working hard, they will also get one of the highest rank across the country.
Special CP (West) Sanjay Singh, DCP Rphini Pranav Tayal and Add DCP Jitendra Kumar Meena were also present.
