Delhi Police's 'Operation Kawach' leads to arrest of over 1000 in a 24 hour oepration

Those arrested are being probed for their alleged associations with gangs led by Lawrence Bishnoi, Neeraj Bawana, Kaushal Chaudhary, Tillu Tajpuria and others

New Delhi, November 14

The Delhi Police's ‘Operation Kawach’ has led to arrest of 1000 people within 24 hours from various gangs in the wake of the recent incidents of shootings reported in the city. 

‘Operation Kawach’, an initiative in which the Delhi Police takes action from time to time against criminals and drug traffickers, is executed by the local police in coordination with the Special Cell and Crime Branch.

The police said those detained are associated with gangs led by Lawrence Bishnoi, Neeraj Bawana, Kaushal Chaudhary, Tillu Tajpuria and others. Some of the arrested individuals are linked to Kala Jatheri, Manjeet Mahal and Nandu gangs,

The officials informed that while 486 people were apprehended in Outer North district 20% of them juveniles, 39 were arrested in Dwarka district, 21 in Southwest district and 25 in North district.

In the Outer North district, 3,400 quarters of liquor were seized and four people were arrested under the Excise Act. In the Southeast district, 50 locations were raided, leading to the detention of 100 people and eventual arrest of six, an officer said. In the Southeast district, 21 were arrested under the NDPS Act.

39 were held from Dwarka district and eight cases under NDPS Act and 18 under the Excise Act were lodged.

Those arrested  were booked for allegedly being involved in activities like possessing illegal firearms, liquor and banned drugs, as well as thefts.
