DPS Faridabad school student died by suicide over harassment by school authorities

New Delhi, February 26

A teenaged student of Delhi Public School in Faridabad, committed suicide by jumping off his building. The student left a suicide note mentioning harassment by his school authorities.

The victim was a student of DPS in Greater Faridabad and lived with her mother, a single mther and a teacher at a school.

The police said they found a suicide note at the victim’s house where he was being harassed by his school.

The police said the incident took place on February 25when the boy’s mother had gone to visit her father. She received a call from a neighbour informing her that her son had jumped off the building.

The boy was rushed to the hospital by the neighbours but he was declared brought dead.

The purported suicide note, addressed to his mother, states: “This school has killed me. Specially higher authorities… tell ninna and bade papa about my sexuality and whatever happened with me. And please try to handle them… You are wonderful, strong, beautiful and amazing. Don’t care what relatives say…”

According to the police, two children made lewd remarks against him. His mother had complained about this to the principal but the authorities did not do anything. The boy had gone into depression and was seeking treatment.

As the schools were shut, he was at home however when the schools recently reopened, the boy started going again because of exams.

The victim complained of mental harassment at school and even lack of support from teachers in his studies.

The boy’s mother filed police complaint against the school authorities.

The mother mentioned that her son had informed her that some boys in school had harassed him over his sexuality.

The mother had filed several complaints to the school authorities but no action was taken by them. The mother also wrote in the complaint that he had a science exam and since he suffered from dyslexia, he was unable to solve numerical problems in the paper. He sought help from the headmistress but she rebuked him and accused him of taking advantage of his condition.

The mother had written to the school authorities that in March 2021, her son was sexually harassed in the school washroom by a group of schoolboys.

The police have filed a case against the school authorities mentioned in the complaint, under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) of IPC.
