Drug peddling gang of UP, Bihar busted, over 17 kilograms of cannabis seized

New Delhi, April 14

The Delhi Police South East District busted a drug peddling gang from UP and Bihar and seized over 17kgs of cannabis.

The accused including a couple were identified as Ram Kumar (36) from Samastipur in Bihar one Sovran (28) from Auriya in UP and wife of Ram Kumar Tulsi who was used as a cover to avoid police protection. 

The police added that Ram Kumar js a school dropout from Bihar Govt. School. He is runs a general store in his village to earn his livelihood while his Tulsi is illiterate and accompanied her husband during the delivery of the consignment.  Sovran is a driver by profession but lost his job during the lockdown. The accused however have no criminal background. 

The officials said that when the policemen who were on picket checking duty at Govind Puri Metro Station, they saw a car approaching towards them. Keeping night curfew guidelines in mind, the staff stopped the car on suspicion. The passengers including a woman were reluctant to be checked.

The officials added that the police had  suspicion that the persons in the car were hiding something and decided to thoroughly check the car. The accused tried to stop the car but the police stictened check and found found three bags hidden. The bags were reportedly carrying packets of cannabis of 17.2 kilogrmas of cannabis. 

DCP (South East) RP Meena stated the ccused purchased the cannabis from Bihar and used it to sell it in Delhi and NCR. Ram Kumar also disclosed that he accompanied his wife to avoid police checking. 

The police further said that the investigation has been directed towards the supplier of the cannabis from Bihar to bust the entire interstate racket. 

The police have booked the accused under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and are further investigating the case.
