ED questions MUDA officials in Karnataka MUDA scam case

MUDA Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO) Manjunath was reportedly quizzed for three hours

New Delhi, December 5

Directorate of Enforcement questioned officials linked to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority scam.

The ED is probing the alleged irregularities in the MUDA site allotment case.

MUDA Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO) Manjunath was reportedly quizzed for three hours.

Manjunath was issued a notice to appear before ED officials, and he visited the ED office for questioning. Urban Development Department Secretary Deepa Cholan appeared for inquiry before the ED, and she was questioned for five hours on December 3.

The ED has alleged that most of the land allotments, under the controversial 50:50 scheme, were made in the names of dummy or benami individuals. These plots were later sold by real estate businessmen, generating unaccounted cash.

As per the ED investigation, these illegal land allotments were made in exchange for luxury cars, cash, and immovable properties allegedly by former MUDA commissioner GT Dinesh Kumar.

The proceeds from the sale of these allotted sites were disguised as commissions or profits from real estate businesses.

The illegal sites, obtained by influential individuals, were then sold to gullible customers. The money received from these transactions was projected as legitimate earnings. However, it constitutes proceeds of crime (POC) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA)
