Engineering girl student killed in mobile phone robbery bid in Ghaziabad

New Delhi, October 30

An engineering student was pulled out of a rickshaw in a bid of mobile phone robbery that left her dead in Ghaziabad. 

The victim identified as Kirti, native of Hapur, was a first-year BTech computer science student at ABES Engineering College in Ghaziabad. The girl has recently joined college, 12 days before the incident. 

According to police, the girl used to travel to college in bus and sometime in an auto rickshaw. On the fateful day, she was travelling in an auto when the accused tried to snatch her phone. The impact was such that she fell down on the road and received severe head injury. Kirti was first rushed to a hospital in Hapur, minutes after the accident. She was then admitted to the Neuro ICU of Yashoda Hospital in Nehru Nagar, where she was on ventilator support after sustaining head injuries.

The police said that the incident took place on NH-9 in Ghaziabad when Kirti was returning home to Hapur along with a friend when two men tried to snatch her phone. 

The police arrested one identified as Balveer after a gun fight while another accused Jeetu is absconding. 

Ghaziabad CP Ajay Kumar Mishra ordered the removal of the SHO of Masuri Police Station, Ravindran Pant.

The accused who were earlier booked for robbery among other charges wil be now booked for murder under IPC.
