Former Haryana CM released from Tihar Jail following the recent Delhi Govt order

New Delhi, July 2

Former Haryana CM and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala was released from Tihar Jail. His release was welcomed by his family and supporters who gathered at Gurugram Delhi border to welcome him.

Confirming the same, DG prisons Sandeep Goel stated that Chautala was released after finishing necessary formalities.

It is to be noted Chautala who was serving a 10-year prison term in a teacher recruitment scam case was already put on parole when he was granted release from Tihar prisons.

According to officials, since Chautala has already served nine years and nine months of his sentence, he was eligible to get out of prison.

The Delhi government had passed an order In June granting a six-month special remission to those who have served nine-and-half years of their 10-year prison sentence to decongest jails in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chautala was jailed in 2013 in connection with the teacher recruitment scam case. He was on emergency parole since March 26, 2020, due to the Covid pandemic and was scheduled to surrender on February 21, 2021.

The officials stated that after he was informed about his remission from jail term, he arrived at the Tihar jail and finished the formalities. He had another three months of jail time which was remitted following the government order.

Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala, and 53 others, including IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar, were convicted and sentenced in the case of illegal recruitment of 3,206 junior basic teachers in 2000 which was proved by the CBI.
