Ghaziabad police arrests two including a pastor for alleged conversion

Pastor Vinod Kunjumon of Kerala who currently lives in Sahibabad held Sunday prayers where he allegedly influenced people for conversion

New Delhi, June 17

The Ghaziabad Police arrested two men, including a pastor, for allegedly attempting to convert members of the Scheduled Caste (SC) by offering inducements. 

The police identified the accused as Pastor Vinod Kunjumon of Kerala who currently lives in Sahibabad. The other arrested man is Premchand Jatav, a resident of Rahul Vihar in Ghaziabad. 

The police has received a complaint from one Prabal Gupta at the Crossings Republik police station on June 15. 

The locals however alleged that the pastor used to only hold prayers on Sunday, and people from Rahul Vihar and Buddh Vihar used to attend it. Gupta also alleged that when Bajrang Dal members opposed it, they were attacked.

The police registered an FIR under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(3) (threats involving death) 352 (breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and a relevant section of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021.
