Himachal Pradesh CS, Mandi DC offices receive bomb threats, declared hoax

New Delhi, April 18
The offices of Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena and the deputy commissioner in Mandi received bomb threat e-mails.
Prabodh Saxena received the e-mail late on April 16 hours after the deputy commissioner’s office in Mandi got an email claiming that a bomb had been planted there.
The e-mail received by Saxena referred to the chief secretary’s office located in the Secretariat.
Both the offices received e-mails, both mails mentioned a case in Tamil Nadu and had sender’s name as Tahawwur Rana.
The mails alleged that that RDX devices have been set up. The explosives will go off 11:30 am on April 17 at my office and at 1.30 pm in Mandi. As soon as this information was received, police alongwith the bomb squads vacated the premises and carried out a search.
The police added that both offices were checked by police teams but nothing suspicious has been found.
In a statement, police said they are taking the matter with utmost seriousness. “Relevant units are actively investigating the case and all necessary security measures have been put in place. Official information will be shared once facts are verified, to avoid unnecessary speculation. Updates will be provided in public interest at the appropriate time,” it said.
Mandi SP Sakshi Verma said the office was cleared after teams from the bomb squad, CISF, dog squad, and three police teams from Mandi, Kullu and Bilaspur thoroughly checked the premises.
The police had earlier registered a case last week after former minister Virendra Kanwar received a call threatening to kidnap and kill him for ransom.
