IPS officer Sanjay Sain who excelled in Northeast riots probe receives Union HM's Medal for Excellence in Investigation

New Delhi, August 14
The Centre conferred 140 officers with the Union Home Minister’s medal for Excellence in Investigation with four officers from Delhi Police.
DCP (Central) Sanjay Kumar Sain took over as DCP (Northeast) in 2021 and oversaw investigation and evidence gathering of the 2020 riots cases.

DCP Sain supervised the Norhteast riots investigation that was massive. He introduced a Riot Cell and appointed policemen there who first worked on analysis the cases, recording statements, collectiving evidence, preparing chargesheets in a systematic manner.
Sain took over at a critical time when Delhi Police was facing the heat of northeast riots. His approach and style of working won hearts of lakhs of citizens in Northeast distict.
Inspector Pramod Joshi, then SHO of Gokalpuri police station, among the severely affected areas; Assistant Sub-Inspector Gajraj Singh and Inspector Tanvir Ashraf, then posted with Northeast district’s legal cell. All three are recipients of the award.
Inspector Tanvir Ashraf handled distress calls after the riots. The officer had also received the Ratan Lal Insignia Award, named after Head Constable Rattan Lal who was killed during the riots.
Both Sain and Ashraf are also recipients of the AKP (Asadharan Karya Puruskar ) award.
