New Delhi, December 23

The Rajasthan Police have arrested a notorious “thief bride” who extorted money from rich men by posing on matrimonial apps. Jaipur Police tracked her down to Dehradun and arrested her.

The accused had recently married a reputed jeweller from Jaipur after connecting with him on a matrimonial app. After earning the trust of her in-laws, she fled with jewellery and cash worth Rs 36.5 lakhs. Moreover, the woman even filed false cases against her husband and his family in Dehradun, to blackmail them further.

The case came to light on July 29, 2023, when the jeweller filed a police complaint. He recounted how, following the demise of his first wife, he sought companionship through a matrimonial app. He connected with the accused, visited her in Dehradun, and eventually married her in February last year.

The Jaipur police stated that the con woman has duped multiple men through matrimonial apps. The woman specifically targeted divorced or wealthy businessmen and professionals via matrimonial apps. She used to stay with the new family for three to four months building trust with the family before vanishing with valuable assets.

If the families found out her truth, she used to slap false cases of domestic violence and assault to extort more money form them.
