Jharkhand police arrests area commander, four members of a banned outfit

The Jharkhand police have arrested an area commander and four members of the banned militant group Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC) from Taraheta forest, Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh.

The accused have been identified as Awadhesh Kumar alias Prashant ji (Palamu district), who is an area commander of the TSPC. Kumar is also named in multiple criminal cases registered at Katkamsandi and Katkamdag police stations. The other four arrested are Aditya Ganjhu, Deven Ganjhu, and Dharam Ganjhu (Chatra); and Rooplal Ganjhu of Masuria (Hazaribagh).

The police informed that on June 12, they had an intel that some TSPC members were planning an attack. A joint operation was launched. 

The police stated that the arrested individuals are linked to a June 1 incident that took place in Hazaribagh’s Keredari area. The TSPC members intercepted and set fire to two trucks near a mining company’s site, leaving behind a letter signed by one “Kaushal ji”. The letter warned of “consequences” if the companies refused to initiate a dialogue with the group. 

The police seized one AR-15 M4 American carbine rifle, one magazine, three country-made firearms, a country-made pistol of 7.62 mm, live cartridges of various calibers, nine mobile phones and pamphlet.
