After protests by doctors, the management agreed to appoint lift operators for every lift and deploy armed police officers in each ward

New Delhi, September 11

A junior resident doctor from the Oncology Department at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi was molested in a hospital lift on her way to work on September 8.The police immediately arrested the accused.

The incident comes against the backdrop of the RG Kar Hospital case, where a female trainee doctor was raped and murdered on August 9, leading to massive protests across the country as doctors took to the streets demanding justice for the victim.

The doctors announced a pen-down strike. However, after discussions between the Junior Doctors' Association (JDA) and the RIMS management, the strike was called off when the management assured the doctors of increased security.

The management agreed to appoint lift operators for every lift and deploy armed police officers in each ward. At least 100 armed police personnel will be stationed on the premises, officials said.
