Man jumps to death after setting his former wife on fire in East Delhi

The police caught the accused in the CCTV footage entering the victim's home; he stabbed her four times before setting her body on fire

New Delhi, April 25

A man jumped to his death a day after he allegedly stabbed his former wife to death and set her on fire at her home in East Delhi.

The police received a PCR call saying that smoke was coming out of and apartment after which police and fire services rushed to the spot. 

DCP (East) Abhishek Dhania stated that the body of a woman was found in a burnt condition in a room. An initial medical inspection also revealed four stab wounds. The woman was later identified. 

Her body was taken to LBS Hospital for further procedures. 

The police grabbed the CCTV footage around the area and spotted a man entering the premises of the victim’s house on April 23. The man turned out to be victim's former husband identified as Sandeep. 

Sandeep was the victim’s second husband. She divorced him in 2024. Her first marriage was in 2020; it ended in 2022. She then married Sandeep, police added. 

Sandeep had previously been accused in a molestation case. After the victim divorced Sandeep, he started stalking her and her daughter. She had a daughter from her first marriage. 

The woman’s current husband said the victim told him earlier that Sandeep began threatening her after he was unable to secure a job due to the molestation case. Sandeep had allegedly threatened her with dire consequences if she did not withdraw the complaint. 

Based on the husband’s statement, an FIR under Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS was registered, police added.
