The accused is involved in murder of teacher Sunil Kumar, 37, his wife Poonam Bharti, 32, and their two daughters, aged five and two

New Delhi, October 10

A murder accused sustained a bullet injury to his right leg while attempting to escape the police in Amethi of Uttar Pradesh.

The accused was identified as Chandan Verma, 28, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of a teacher Sunil Kumar, 37, his wife Poonam Bharti, 32, and their two daughters, aged five and two, whose bodies were found inside their house in Amethi recently.

The police stated that they took Verma to the Mohanganj area of Amethi to recover the weapon and the motorcycle used in the crime, when the accused tried to flee. He allegedly snatched Sub-Inspector Madan Kumar’s service pistol and opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, the police fired back.

Chandan Verma was then rushed to the hospital where his condition is currently stable.

The police stated that Verma reportedly targeted the family after a dispute with Sunil Kumar. Poonam Bharti had filed a complaint against him on August 18, accusing him of “indecent behaviour” and stating that if anything happened to her family, Verma should be held responsible.
