MHA recommends removal of Punjab Police personnel from AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal secutiy, personnel withdrawn

Punjab Police had deployed additional security of around 8-10 men in Kejriwal’s security detail who already has Z+ security cover with over 60 personnel

Following the letter from Union Home Ministry on January 6 to the Delhi Police that it should not deploy Punjab Police personnel in the security ring of Delhi’s former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the capital, the Punjab police have removed its personnel from the security cover. 

The AAP’s national convenor is covered under Z-plus security from the Delhi Police, under which he gets around 60 personnel, including personal security officers, two escorts, watchers, armed guards and frisking staff.

Punjab Police had deployed additional security of around 8-10 men in Kejriwal’s security detail. 

A few months ago, the Punjab Police had cited a threat to Kejriwal from pro-Khalistani elements, they added. Last week, the Punjab Police shared a fresh input with the Delhi Police about a possible attack on Kejriwal by pro-Khalistani terror groups.

Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, told media in Patiala, “Time to time, we get reports of threats to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Kejriwal and we share them with the agencies concerned. Following the directions of the Delhi Police and the Election Commission today, we withdrew the component of the Punjab Police in the security of Kejriwal ji.We showed our concerns to them. We will remain in touch with them. We will share our inputs with the Delhi Police".
