Mumbai Police arrest a con who impersonated as credit card agent, robbed money from bank account

New Delhi, July 18

The Mumbai Police arrested a con credit card agent who stole customer data to issue a credit card and withdrew Rs 81,000 from a bank. 

The police arrested Jagannath Mumbarkar who had introduced himself to the woman as Sachin Sawant. He had approached the woman at her office with marketing ideas. 

Mumbarkar pretended to be a credit card agent while he runs a Chinese stall.

A 24-year-old girl filed a complaint that a  credit card issued in her name and the money was withdrawn from her account. 

The woman told police that she had told the agent that she wanted the card cancelled. However, he allegedly used it to withdraw the money after lying to her that he had cancelled the card. She approached the police when the bank kept calling her and finally a recovery agent landed at her doorstep asking her to pay ‘her dues’.

The man ended up withdrawing Rs 81,000 and the woman started getting calls from the bank. 

The police have booked the accused under IPC sections 419, 420 and 66 C and D of the IT Act for impersonating, identity theft and cheating.
