NIA Special court Patna convicts 9 SIMI terrorists in Patna serial blast case

New Delhi, October 28

The NIA special court Patna pronounced judgement in Patna serial bomb blast case against nine SIMI Terrorists and held them guilty. 

The accused Imtiaz Ansari alias Alam Haider Ali, Numan Ansari & Mujibullah Ansari, Umer Siddique and Azharuddin Qureshi, Ahmad Hussain has been found guilty under various sections of the IPC, the Explosives Substance Act. 

The NIA was investigating the case pertaining to a series of bomb explosions which had taken place at Patna railway junction and Gandhi Maidan on October 2013. One explosion at Patna Railway Junction had resulted in severe injury to one accused Tariq Ajam who had subsequently died on in November 2013 while undergoing treatment. 

Six explosions had taken place at Gandhi Maidan Patna between 11.40 to 12.45 hours where Hunkar rally of BJP was being held and where Narendra Modi, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat was the Chief Guest. Six persons had died and more than 89 people had got injured in the explosion at Gandhi Maidan. 

After investigation, a combined Charge-sheet was filed in April 2014 against one accused and supplementary charge-sheet was filed in August 2014 against 10 accused persons. 

One of these chargesheeted accused, a juvenile, has already been convicted by Juvenile Justice Board, Patna. Charges against one deceased accused have been abated. 

The quantum of sentence against the nine accused convicted today would be pronounced in November by the NIA Special Court Patna.
