Protests over murder of a man in Tamil Nadu- DSP's hair pulled out during commotion
A video of the incident with DSP Gayathri in Virudhunagar went viral
New Delhi, September 4
The Deputy SP with Tamil Nadu police was assaulted by a man participating in a protest in Virudhunagar district. A video of the incident shows the man pulling the hair of the cop.
The police stated that the incident took place on September 3. A man identified as Kalikumar, was allegedly murdered by a group of men due to previous enmity. Locals from his village, including his friends and family, staged a protest outside a government hospital in Arupukkottai where Kalikumar’s body was kept, demanding the arrest of his killers.
When some of the protesters tried to block the road, DSP Gayathri and other police personnel tried to disperse them. This led to a physical altercation between the police and protesters. The police personnel immediately took DSP Gayathri to a secured spot and she was reported safe.
The police then arrested Balamurugan, 30, who was seen pulling the DSP’s hair. Four other people were arrested in connection with the protest.
