Students hold massive protests in Andhra Pradesh after a camera was found in varsity's girls washroom

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an inquiry into the matter

New Delhi, August 31

A protest erupted at an engineering college in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh after a hidden camera was discovered in a washroom of the girls’ hostel and the videos were allegedly circulated among the students.

Over 300 videos were allegedly recorded and allegedly circulated among the boys' hostel.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an inquiry into the matter. 

The camera, placed inside the campus hostel of Gudlavalleru College of Engineering, was found by a student. This led to massive protests on August 29 by the students.

The police have arrested a final-year engineering student, who was believed to be involved in placing the camera, was detained. The identity of the student has not been disclosed, officials added. 

The police said that they have examined the laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic gadgets of the accused in the presence of students and college staff, and no incriminating evidence was discovered.

However, the college administration claimed that no hidden cameras were found in the girls' hostel and stated that they are cooperating with the police probe. 

Krishna Superintendent of Police (SP) R Gangadhar Rao, conducted a preliminary inquiry and said that the police had not found any hidden cameras in the girls’ hostel.
