New Delhi, Apri 19

In a strange case from East Delhi, a young man killed his wife, a PT teacher, following a dream where he was "told" to kill his wife. The man later surrendered at the neighbouring police station and confessed to his crime.

The police stated that the incident took place on April 14. The deceased was identified as Kamlesh Kumar (30) and her husband has been identified as Sriyansh Kumar (33). Her brother was identified as Ram (17) who had come to his sister's house for a visit from Mathura.

Sriyansh and Kamlesh lived in a joint family with the man’s parents living on the second floor and his grandparents on the first floor of the house in Shakarpur. The couple lived on the third floor with their child.

DCP (East) Apoorva Gupta said that there was a fight between the couple, and the husband went missing from the house the next morning. the husband first killed Kamlesh and later strangulated her brother with a belt. The weapon of offence, a screwdriver, was recovered from their home.

The police probe shows that the fights began a few days ago when Kamlesh learnt that her husband had transferred Rs 50,000 to a woman he had known from college. She even called up the woman but the latter denied being in touch with Sriyansh or having any knowledge of the money transfer. The family’s financial condition was not good. Sriyansh was unemployed and most of the expenses were borne by Kamlesh

During questioning, Sriyansh shared that he was frustrated about being unemployed despite having a B Tech degree and Kamlesh's contant questioning about the money transfer left him infuriated. Sriyansh claimed that he had a dream in which he was “asked to” kill his wife.

Kamlesh’s parents have accused Sriyansh of demanding dowry and have given a statement in this regard to the sub-divisional magistrate.

The police have booked the accused for double murder and other charges while he is likely to be booked for dowry harassment too.
