New Delhi, November 9
At least three Maoists were killed in an encounter between security forces and the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) in the jungles of Bijapur district.
The Central Reserve Police Force’s elite force Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), District Reserve Guards (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) carried out an operation.
The police stated that an encounter broke out around 11 am on the Usoor-Basaguda and Pamed in southern part of Bijapur district, which shares its border with Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district and the neighbouring state of Telangana. The encounter site is 130 km from Bijapur district headquarters.
One SLR and a pistol was found in the search operations that followed.
In the recent operations against the left wing extremism, 393 alleged Maoists were arrested while 178 Naxals surrendered. Security forces also seized 47 weapons and found 87 Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs).
