Two CRPF jawaans injured in an IED explosion in Bijapur of Chhattisgarh

New Delhi, January 16

Two jawans from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) suffered injuries after one of them stepped on a pressure Improvised explosive device (IED) while they were on an area domination exercise in Chhattisgarh’s Maoist-hit Bijapur district.

The police informed that the incident took place when CRPF battalion 229 and its elite Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) left from Putkel camp in jurisdiction of Basaguda police station.

The injured jawans have been evacuated. They are in a stable condition and out of danger, police further said. 

19 IEDs have been detected and diffused in Bijapur, while six jawans, including the two Thursday, have been injured in such blasts. 

The incident took place when just weeks ago, eight security personnel and one civilian driver lost their lives when a command IED weighing over 40 kgs ripped through a concrete road blowing away their SUV on Kutru-Bedre road in Bijapur.
