Two Delhi traffic police personnel on duty dragged by a car in southwest Delhi

Assistant Sub-Inspector Pramod Singh and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan of the Vasant Vihar traffic circle attempted to stop a car that sped away and later hit them to escape

New Delhi, November 4

Two traffic police officers were injured in a hit-and-run incident in New Delhi’s Kishangarh after they attempted to stop a car that jumped a red light.

The officials were identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Pramod Singh and Head Constable Sailesh Chouhan of the Vasant Vihar traffic circle.

The officers have said they were doing mobile prosecution challan on Vedant Deshika Marg (Ber Sarai Market Road) when a car jumped the red light and came towards them. HC Sailesh signalled the car to stop and the driver stopped the car but when asked to step out, in an attempt to escape, the driver sped away dragging the duo for approximately 20 meters. 

The injured police officers had been taken to Safdarjung Hospital by a PCR van. The police have found details of the car’s owner and are searching for the suspect.

The police have registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty), and 3(5) (joint liability).
