The 2025 Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 covering both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes leading to the cave shrine

New Delhi, June 17

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan reviewed the security preparedness for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 3. After the fatal Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 27 lives, the Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to run in tight security of over 600 companies of the Central Armed Police Force.

The 2025 Amarnath Yatra will begin on July 3 covering both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes leading to the cave shrine. This year, the yatra would beheld for 38 days only.

A multi-layer security grid, including both ground forces and aerial surveillance, would be activated ahead of the yatra.

The Home Secretary chaired a high-level security review meeting here, which will be attended by top civil and security officials of J&K, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, J&K Home Secretary, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, General Officer Commanding (GoC) 15 Corps Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, ADG CID Nitish Kumar, senior officers from paramilitary forces, and representatives of intelligence agencies.

The Union Home Secretary is also expected to interact with senior officers of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) including CRPF, BSF, and ITBP, to ensure seamless coordination with the J&K Police and the Army. The senior official said joint security drills and surveillance along the yatra routes had already begun.

While the J&K government has declared the yatra route as “No Flying Zone”, the security forces have deployed drone surveillance, night patrolling, and road-opening parties to counter any potential threats.

The government has also made arrangements for RFID tracking of yatris, real-time weather alerts, emergency evacuation protocols, and dedicated health camps to ensure the smooth conduct of the yatra.
